Bernie Duhaime

Past President & Sister Cities Committee Chair

Bernie Duhaime, President of Alliance Française Omaha (AFO) from 2002 to 2007 and an influential member of our organization, passed away in late January of this year, R.I.P. A Celebration of Life will be held at Le Voltaire French restaurant from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on 2 February.

Bernie was an ex-officio board member and chair of the Omaha Sister Cities Committee. He worked with the city of Omaha to welcome its newest Sister City, the Intercom of Isigny-Omaha, made up of a number of towns surrounding Omaha Beach, the famous D-Day landing site of American Forces during WWII. Bernie also served as Treasurer and Vice President of the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA. He was President of La Renaissance Française-USA as well as Treasurer of the American Friends of Musée d’Orsay. Bernie held the National Order of Merit, France's second national order after the Legion of Honor, where he was awarded the rank of Chevalier for his fundraising initiatives supporting Franco-American heritage projects and the American Friends of the Musée d'Orsay in particular.

Bernard Duhaime, président de l'Alliance Française d'Omaha (AFO) de 2002 à 2007 et membre important de notre organisation, est décédé fin janvier de cette année, R.I.P. Une célébration de sa vie aura lieu au restaurant français Le Voltaire de 17h00 à 19h00 le 2 février.

Bernard était membre d’office du conseil d’administration et président du comité des villes sœurs d’Omaha. Il a travaillé avec la ville d’Omaha pour accueillir sa nouvelle ville sœur, l’Intercom d’Isigny-Omaha, composée de plusieurs villes entourant Omaha Beach, le célèbre site du débarquement des forces américaines pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Bernard a été trésorier et vice-président de la Fédération des Alliances Françaises USA. Il a été président de La Renaissance Française-USA ainsi que trésorier des American Friends of Musée d’Orsay. Bernie était titulaire de l’Ordre national du Mérite, le second ordre national français après la Légion d’honneur, où il a été nommé Chevalier pour ses initiatives de collecte de fonds en faveur des projets patrimoniaux franco-américains et en particulier des American Friends of Musée d’Orsay.
