About Our Classes

Alliance Française Omaha offers French classes throughout the year in four sessions: fall, winter, spring, and summer. Classes for true beginners to advanced students are taught by our experienced teachers; see Meet our Instructors for more information. We are pleased to offer you a variety of conversation and other classes on specific topics throughout the year. These include five levels of Communications classes, from Communications 101 for beginners to Communications 503 for advanced learners. Each new session builds on lessons learned during the previous session. All our classes stress conversation practice.

When Classes are Scheduled

Communications 101, 201, 301, and 401 are normally offered in the fall; 102, 202, 302, and 402 in the winter; 103, 203, 303, and 403 in the spring. When there is sufficient demand and staffing, various Communications classes are taught in other semesters. The 500 level is scheduled when there is sufficient demand. Shorter classes and workshops that stress conversation, grammar and culture are offered every semester, including summer. A Salon featuring a different topic is designed for advanced learners. It is scheduled every semester except summer.

Choosing the Right Class

The brief descriptions of the Communications classes given below may help you determine the best course if you have any background in French. For the shorter classes, please see the description in the schedule for an indication of the level at which it is offered. Students may repeat courses as often as desired. We strongly encourage you to contact the Education Chair at education@afomaha.org if you have any questions at all about the right course for you. If the class you want is sold out, please send your name and the class in question to education@afomaha.org to be put on the waitlist. We will contact you if there is a cancellation or another section is opened. Please see the Class Policy memo for additional details about classes. Individual memberships start at just $40 for the year, with further discounts for French teachers and full-time students.
